# How do I delete my account or workspace?

> Account and workspace deletion aren't self-service in Emailit. Learn what to switch off yourself and how to ask support to delete your data.

The dashboard has no button to delete your user account or a workspace. Support handles deletion requests. This article explains what you can do yourself first and how to request deletion.

## Symptoms

- You can't find a delete option in **Account** or in **Workspace → Settings**.
- You want to stop using Emailit, close a test workspace or have your personal data removed.
- You want to leave a workspace that someone else owns.

## Cause

Deleting an account or workspace removes domains, keys, contacts and message history, and it affects billing, so Emailit handles it through support rather than a self-service button.

A few related rules:

- **You can't leave a workspace yourself.** An admin has to remove you from **Members**.
- **The workspace owner can't be removed.** The owner is the person who created the workspace.
- **Subscriptions keep running until you cancel them.** Cancel paid plans before you ask for deletion.

## Fix

1. **Stop billing.** In **Workspace → Billing**, switch a Pro or Business workspace back to Pay as you go, which cancels the subscription. Turn off **Auto-refill**. Repeat for every workspace you own. See [Plans](/docs/billing/plans/).

2. **Stop sending.** Delete your API keys in **Email API → API Keys**, and update any app or SMTP plugin that still uses them.

3. **Remove what you don't want kept.** Delete domains, webhooks, contacts, audiences and suppressions. Deleting domains needs the admin role. Message data is deleted automatically when your [data retention](/docs/data-retention/) period ends.

4. **Leave someone else's workspace.** Ask an admin of that workspace to open **Members** in **Workspace → Settings** and select **Remove** on your row.

5. **Request deletion.** [Contact support](/contact/) from the email address on your account. Say which workspaces you want deleted, by name, or that you want your whole user account removed.

> **Export your data first:** Export anything you want to keep before you ask for deletion, for example contacts as CSV from **Email Marketing → Contacts** and templates as HTML or ZIP from **Email Marketing → Templates**.

For how long Emailit keeps data, see [Data retention](/docs/data-retention/). For roles and ownership, see [Members and roles](/docs/workspaces/members-and-roles/).

## Still stuck?
