FAQ

Can I send from a Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook address?

Emailit only sends from domains you verify with DNS records, so free addresses like @gmail.com can't be used as From. Use your own domain and a Reply-To.

Updated Oct 1, 2026

No. Emailit can only send from domains that you own and verify, so addresses such as you@gmail.com, you@yahoo.com or you@outlook.com can’t be the From address. This article explains why and what to use instead.

Symptoms

  • Sending with a free address in from fails with 422 Domain not verified from the API, or 530 From/Sender domain is not verified for this workspace over SMTP.
  • You tried to add gmail.com as a domain, but its DNS records can never be verified.

Cause

To send on behalf of a domain, Emailit needs DNS records on that domain: SPF, DKIM and a return path. They prove the domain owner allows Emailit to send for it, and they let mailbox providers authenticate your mail. Only Google, Yahoo or Microsoft can change the DNS for their own domains, so those domains can never be verified in your workspace.

Even if the message were sent, it would fail authentication. Several free providers publish strict DMARC policies that tell receivers to reject or quarantine mail from their domains that comes from other services.

Fix

  1. Get a domain. Register one with any registrar if you don’t have one yet. A short, recognizable name for your brand or project works best.

  2. Add and verify it. In Email APIDomains, select Add domain, publish the DNS records and select Check DNS. See Add a domain.

  3. Send from an address on that domain. Any local part works without creating a mailbox, for example hello@acme.com or notifications@acme.com. Use a friendly name: "Ada from Acme <hello@acme.com>".

  4. Send replies to your existing inbox. Set reply_to to your Gmail or Outlook address so replies reach you:

    JSON
    {
      "from": "Ada from Acme <hello@acme.com>",
      "reply_to": "ada.lovelace@gmail.com",
      "to": "customer@example.com",
      "subject": "Your order has shipped",
      "html": "<p>It's on its way.</p>"
    }

    To receive mail at your domain in Emailit itself, set up inbound email.

On Pay as you go, a domain registered in the last 30 days needs a manual review before it can send. See Why is my domain pending verification?. Pro and Business skip that review.
