Limits and quotas
Every Emailit limit in one place, from per-second and daily sending limits and automatic increases to plan quotas, message size and dashboard limits.
Emailit applies limits to protect deliverability for everyone on the platform and to keep the service stable. This page lists every limit you might hit, what happens when you do, and how to get more.
Sending limits
Every new workspace starts with the same sending limits, on every plan:
| Limit | Default | Resets |
|---|---|---|
| Emails per second | 2 | Rolling one-second window |
| Emails per day | 5,000 | 00:00 UTC every day |
- Shared. The limits are per workspace and shared by the API, SMTP and every API key in the workspace.
- API counts recipients. A
POST /v2/emailsrequest with 3 addresses acrossto,ccandbcccounts as 3 emails. - SMTP counts transactions. Each SMTP transaction, starting at
MAIL FROM, counts once.
Your current limits are on the Dashboard in the Sending Limits card: Emails per Second, Emails per Day with how many you’ve sent today and how many remain, and Subscribers per Audience.
When you hit a limit
The API returns 429 with Rate limit exceeded or Daily limit exceeded. SMTP rejects MAIL FROM with 452 4.4.5 Messages per second limit exceeded or 452 4.5.3 Daily message limit exceeded. Nothing is sent or charged, so you can retry.
Send responses include these headers:
| Header | Meaning |
|---|---|
ratelimit-limit |
Emails allowed per second |
ratelimit-remaining |
Emails left in the current second |
ratelimit-reset |
Seconds until the per-second window resets |
ratelimit-daily-limit |
Emails allowed per day |
ratelimit-daily-remaining |
Emails left today |
ratelimit-daily-reset |
Seconds until 00:00 UTC |
retry-after |
Seconds to wait before retrying, on 429 responses |
{
"error": "Daily limit exceeded",
"message": "Daily sending limit of 5000 messages has been reached.",
"limit": 5000,
"current": 5000,
"retry_after": 41200
}Send from a queue that respects your per-second limit, wait for retry-after before retrying, and spread large batches across the day. See Why do I get 429 Rate limit exceeded? and Rate limits.
Automatic increases on Pro and Business
On Pro and Business, Emailit raises sending limits automatically as you build a healthy sending history. Sending health is checked every hour, and limits go up one step when all of these are true:
- At least 7 days have passed since the last increase.
- The bounce rate is under 2% in every recent window with at least 100 unique recipients.
- No sending domain is paused and the workspace isn’t suspended.
| Limit | Steps |
|---|---|
| Emails per day | 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 25,000, 50,000, 100,000, 250,000, 500,000, 1,000,000, then 25% more per step up to 2,000,000 |
| Emails per second | 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1,000, then 25% more per step up to 2,000 |
A workspace on the defaults moves to 5 emails per second and 10,000 per day at its first increase. See Sending health.
| Pay as you go | Pro | Business | Custom | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sending limit increases | On request | Automatic, based on sending health | Automatic, based on sending health | By agreement |
Request an increase
On any plan, you can ask for higher limits. On the Dashboard, select Request Increase in the Sending Limits card and fill in the requested emails per second (up to 50), emails per day (up to 100,000) and subscribers per audience (up to 1,000,000), plus where your list comes from and why you need more. The team usually reviews requests within 24 hours. See Workspace requests.
For more than the form allows, ask about a Custom plan.
Plan limits
| Pay as you go | Pro | Business | Custom | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sending domains | 3 (25 after your first credit purchase) | 100 | 1,000 | By agreement |
| Webhook endpoints | 3 | 10 | 100 | 100 |
| Webhook payload filters | — | Up to 25 rules | Up to 25 rules | Up to 25 rules |
| Subscribers per audience | 10,000 | 50,000 | 250,000 | Unlimited |
- Sending domains. On Pay as you go, your first credit purchase raises the limit from 3 to 25. An AppSumo license replaces the domain limit with its tier’s.
- Members. Unlimited, except on workspaces with an AppSumo license, which allow as many members as the tier number.
- Subscribers per audience apply when you add or import subscribers. The Audiences list shows usage, for example
12/10,000.
Going over a plan limit returns 422 with a message such as “Pay as you go includes 3 domain(s).” Existing items keep working if you downgrade. You just can’t add more until you’re under the limit.
