Production access (workspace verification)
New Emailit workspaces start in sandbox mode. Learn the sandbox limits, how to request production access, how review works and how to get approved quickly.
Every new workspace starts in sandbox mode so Emailit can confirm who’s sending before mail reaches the wider internet. This page explains what sandbox mode blocks, how to request production access, and what the Emailit team looks for when it reviews your request.
What sandbox mode blocks
Until the request is approved, the workspace can only send to the account email addresses of its own members. Everything else is blocked:
| Where | What happens |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | Banner: “This workspace is not verified. Emails can only be sent to workspace members’ account emails.” |
| API | POST /v2/emails, retry and forward return 403 with code: unverified_workspace_recipient and the blocked_recipients list. |
| SMTP | The recipient is refused with 550 Unverified workspaces can only send to workspace members' account emails. |
| Campaigns | Sending is blocked: “Unverified workspaces cannot send campaigns.” |
{
"code": "unverified_workspace_recipient",
"error": "Workspace not verified",
"message": "Unverified workspaces can only send to workspace members' account emails. Blocked recipient: ada@example.com.",
"blocked_recipients": ["ada@example.com"]
}You can still build everything in sandbox mode: add and verify domains, create API keys, design templates, import contacts and send test messages to your team. To test with a colleague’s inbox, invite them to the workspace.
Before you begin
- You’re an Admin of the workspace. Members see “Only workspace admins can request workspace verification.”
- At least one sending domain is verified. Without one, the form shows Verified Domain Required and a link to the Domains page.
- Your website is live and explains what you do. Reviewers check it.
- You’ve read the Acceptable Use Policy.
Request production access
-
Open the form. Select Request production access in the sandbox banner, or go to WorkspaceSettingsRequests and select Request Verification.
-
Describe your email. Under Email Details:
- Email type: check Transactional, Marketing or both.
- Current number of subscribers: required when you check Marketing.
- Website URL: required, up to 255 characters, for example
https://acme.com. - Expected monthly email volume: Under 1,000, 1,000 - 10,000, 10,000 - 50,000, 50,000 - 100,000 or 100,000+.
-
Explain your use case. Under Use Case:
- Describe your use case: 20 to 2,000 characters. Say what you send and who receives it.
- How do you collect your email subscribers?: 20 to 2,000 characters. Describe how people opt in, such as a sign-up form, account creation or checkout.
-
Confirm compliance. Check all three boxes under Compliance:
- I confirm that I follow GDPR and CAN-SPAM regulations
- I have read and agree to follow the Acceptable Use Policy
- I understand that cold emailing is not allowed on this platform
-
Submit. Select Submit Request. You land on the request’s page with the status Pending Review.
A workspace can have only one open production access request. If one is already pending, the form takes you to it.
How review works
The Emailit team reviews every request by hand. The request moves through these statuses:
| Status | Meaning | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Pending Review | Waiting for the Emailit team | Nothing, or add details in the conversation. |
| Awaiting Your Reply | The team asked you a question | Reply in the conversation. The status returns to Pending Review. |
| Approved | The workspace is in production | Send to anyone. The sandbox banner disappears. |
| Rejected | The request wasn’t approved | Read the reason in the conversation, fix the issue and submit a new request. |
While a request is open, the sandbox banner shows “A verification request has been submitted. Status: Pending Review” with a View request link. Emailit doesn’t send an email when the status changes, so check the request page.
The conversation
The right side of the request page is a conversation with the Emailit team. Team replies are marked Team. Type in Write a reply… and select Send, or press Cmd+Enter (Ctrl+Enter on Windows). Once a request is approved or rejected, the conversation closes.
Get approved quickly
- Verify your domain first, and use it everywhere. Send from the same domain as your website.
- Be specific. “Order confirmations, password resets and shipping updates for customers of our online store” beats “transactional emails”.
- Explain consent. Say exactly where people sign up and what they agree to. For marketing, mention unsubscribe handling and how old your list is.
- Give a realistic volume. Pick the range you expect in your first month, not your long-term goal.
- Make your website match. A live site with a privacy policy and contact details speeds things up.
- Answer questions quickly. A request waiting on Awaiting Your Reply isn’t in the review queue.
What isn’t allowed
Requests are rejected, and workspaces can be suspended later, for:
- Cold email: messages to people who never asked to hear from you.
- Purchased, rented, scraped or shared lists.
- Content that breaks the Acceptable Use Policy.
Production access isn’t permanent protection. If bounce or complaint rates climb, sending health can pause domains or suspend the workspace.
After approval
The workspace stays on its current plan and sending limits: 2 emails per second and 5,000 per day for new workspaces. Pro and Business raise limits automatically as you build a healthy history, and anyone can use Request Increase on the Dashboard.
