Concept
Email details
Read one email's headers, content, attachments, delivery attempts, opens, clicks and spam checks, and forward, cancel or retry it.
The email detail page shows everything Emailit knows about a single email. Open it by selecting a row in Email APIEmails. This page explains each part of it and the actions you can take from it.
Summary
The cards at the top show Created, Scheduled (only for scheduled emails), Status, From, To and Subject. Hover over the status to see its description, or read Email statuses.
Headers
The Headers panel lists the message headers as name and value pairs. It’s collapsed by default; select it to expand. Use it to check From, Reply-To, Message-ID and any custom headers you set. For received mail, it shows the headers the sender’s server delivered.
Content
Message content is hidden until you select Show Preview. The warning under the button, “Viewing may affect email statistics”, is there because the preview renders the HTML, including remote images, which can count as an open.
After you open the preview, switch between:
- HTML: the rendered message in a sandboxed frame.
- Text: the plain-text part.
- Source: the raw HTML.
When message contents have been purged by data retention, the preview and attachments are empty.
Attachments
The Attachments panel lists each file with its name, content type, size and disposition (attachment or inline). To download attachments, use List attachments, which returns the content Base64-encoded.
Deliveries, Loads and Clicks
The tabs on the right show the email’s history, with a count on each tab:
| Tab | Each row shows | Use it to |
|---|---|---|
| Deliveries | A status, the details or the receiving server’s reply, and the time. | See every delivery attempt, temporary failures, the final answer from the recipient’s server, and why an email was held, rejected or suppressed. |
| Loads | The time and IP address of each open. | Check whether and when the message was opened. Needs load tracking. |
| Clicks | The link URL, the IP address and the time of each click. | See which links were clicked. Needs click tracking. |
A Failed row that says “An internal error occurred while sending this email. This message will be retried automatically.” is an error on Emailit’s side. The email isn’t failed; it’s retried like a temporary failure.
Spam checks
Emailit scores outgoing messages with Rspamd before sending. The Spam Checks panel shows the total score and every rule that matched.
The badge next to the title shows the total score:
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green, Score below 5 | Low spam likelihood. |
| Orange, Score from 5 to just under 7 | Borderline. Look at the positive-scoring rules. |
| Red, Score 7 or higher | At or above the hold threshold. The email was held and not sent. |
| Gray, Not inspected | The message wasn’t scored, for example inbound mail. |
The same badge appears in the Spam score column of the Emails list, where you can also filter by it.
The table lists each matched rule (Check), its Result and its Score. Read it like this:
- Score is the rule’s contribution to the total. A positive number pushes the message toward spam; a negative number pulls it away.
- Result describes the effect on you, not the sign of the number. A rule with a negative score shows as Positive (green) because it helped. A rule with a positive score shows as Negative (red) because it hurt. A zero score is Neutral.
- Each row shows the rule’s description with its Rspamd symbol underneath, for example
R_DKIM_ALLOW(valid DKIM signature, negative score) orMIME_HTML_ONLY(no plain-text part, positive score).
Filter the table with All, Negative, Positive and Neutral, or search with Filter checks…. To bring a held message’s score down, fix the rules marked Negative, starting with the highest scores, then retry. See Spam checks for common rules and fixes.
Actions
The buttons at the top of the page depend on the email’s type and status.
Forward
Available for outgoing emails. Forward resends the message to another address as a new email:
- Enter the recipient in To. By default the message is sent as it is.
- Select Add forwarded headers and a comment to include the original headers and an optional Comment above the message.
- The forward is a new email with a new ID, and credits apply as for any send. The original email is unchanged.
- You can forward up to 3 emails per hour per workspace, and only while the message contents are still retained.
The API equivalent is Forward an email.
Cancel delivery
Available while the status is scheduled, accepted or attempted. Emailit tries to pull the email from the send queue. Scheduled emails can be canceled up to 3 minutes before their send time.
Cancellation is best effort. If a delivery attempt has already started, that attempt may still go through; Emailit then shows “Cancel requested” with “The current delivery attempt may still complete. Remaining retries were stopped.” The email’s status becomes canceled and an email.canceled event is sent. The API equivalent is Cancel an email.
Retry
Available in the dashboard for held and suppressed emails. Retry sends a new email with the same content and opens it; the original stays as it was. Standard credits are charged. The email must be less than 30 days old and its contents must still be retained.
The Retry an email API also accepts bounced and failed emails. Fix the cause first: a held email is held again, and a suppressed address is suppressed again, if nothing changed. See Email statuses.
