How-to
Compose an email
Send a one-off email from the Emailit dashboard to test a domain or send a quick note, with optional API key attribution.
Compose sends a single email from the dashboard, without code. Use it to check that a new domain sends correctly, to see how a message renders in a real inbox, or to send a quick note. It isn’t a campaign tool: there are no templates, merge tags or audiences.
Before you begin
- At least one verified sending domain. Without one, the dialog shows “No verified domain” and you can’t send.
- Credits. A composed email costs 1 credit, like any API send.
- If your workspace isn’t verified yet, you can only send to workspace members’ account emails. The dialog shows “You can only send to workspace members’ account emails until this workspace is verified.” See Production access.
Send an email
-
Open Compose. Go to Email APIEmails and select Compose, or select Compose email under Quick Actions on the Dashboard.
-
Set the sender. In From, type the part before the
@(it starts ashello) and choose a verified domain in Domain. -
Add the recipient. Enter one address in To.
-
Write the message. Enter a Subject and write the Message in the editor. It supports bold, italic, links, and bulleted and numbered lists. Emailit sends the message as HTML with a plain-text version generated from it.
-
Attribute it to an API key (optional). Open Advanced and pick an API key. The email is then recorded as sent with that key, so it appears under that key in filters and Analytics. If the key is restricted to one domain, only that domain is offered in Domain.
-
Send. Select Send email. The email’s detail page opens so you can follow its status.
Limits
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Recipients per email | 1 |
| Compose sends | 3 per minute and 10 per hour per workspace |
| Sending limits | Your workspace’s normal per-second and daily limits also apply. See Limits. |
| Attachments, scheduling, custom headers | Not available in Compose. Use the Email API. |
When you hit the Compose limit, the dialog shows the error and you can try again after the wait it gives.
Verify it worked
The email appears on the Outgoing tab of Email APIEmails. Its status moves from Accepted to Delivered within seconds when the receiving server accepts it. If it shows another status, see Email statuses.
